Happy New Year Everyone!

LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS

I'm trying to finish the lighting in the house...what a task! The choices are few especially in my budget. But fortunately I have my eye on one that I could replicate myself (DYI), it's shown above. This would look great above my kitchen island, either this large bunch or 3 smaller bunches.

I would love to get my hands on some antique canning jars. I would occasionally change the lightbulbs to match events during the year such red white and blue for 4th of July, purple and green for Mardi Gras...how fun that be. I better start combing the antique stores and thrift shops.

Inspirations

I love this doorway and awning at UCBerkeley.
This is my inspiration for my future studio...
notice the light fixtures.

Outdoor Lights

I love these...

I wanted to keep the industrial feel of my LOFT in the country...even outdoors. I used these on the exterior walls around the pool.

The Kitchen - Part Three

The floating shelves...

During our construction process I was constantly in the lookout for materials especially if it had a previous life. I love to recycle and I love the stories that comes from it.

The lower shelves are from a friend's old pergola. They were updating their backyard landscape in preparation for their son's wedding.

The top shelves were from an old barn in the area, which I sanded and beeswaxed prior to installation.

After the shelves were installed additional tiles were added.

The Kitchen - Part Two

The first section of the backsplash is installed to get through the final inspection requirement and floating shelves are next.

Sweet Nothings.....

Tinkerbell: You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you, Peter Pan. That's where I'll be waiting.

The Kitchen - Part One

The appliances and cabinets are installed...now for the finishes.

Getting the tiles ready for the kitchen backsplash. Each tile had to be embellished with paper or painted in reverse for the freestyle mosaic look I wanted.

When enough tiles were completed I started the layout to ensure that appearance of randomness.

A New Day

The sunrises have been glorious... this was taken a couple of weeks ago but it's not uncommon to wake up to this scene. One of the many benefits of country life.

As the year draws to a close... I'm thinking how lucky I am... I have my wonderful family and we are enjoying our new house.

I will start sharing pictures soon.
It has been jammed packed two years.... As I previously mentioned we had two construction projects going at the same time.

Our little house has been completely remodeled and we moved in last November. I had some apprehension on how we were going to fit four people in an 800 square foot house but I have to say that that it's been working out. We haven't killed each other yet. My daughter actually has had friends over and her tiny bedroom doesn't seem to matter. In fact it's a joy to hear all the giggling coming from that room. Oh to be eleven again.

I'm still working on our main house, sometime along the way we let go of out general contractor and I took over. I would rather not discuss reasons.

Anyway, we moved into our house this past summer....we have been working the pool, outdoor space and interior finishes.

November 18, 2010

I'm back..... these past year has been a very hectic one. Our house is almost complete... just a few more minor finishes that we will be working on while we live in it.

We are trying hard to enjoy what we have including the most beautiful sunrises. I'm going to start posting about the process of our rebuild where I left off before things started to get busy.
And then the finish product.
